Happy Halloween

Image
Happy Thursday things: At work, I helped to train people all night. One of the things I think I said most was some variation of, "Bend at your knees." What I want to work into my coaching time more is that mistakes are good learning opportunities. On a personal note, I should try to learn more from my mistakes. 😂 Pretty much all I did for Halloween was wear my "This is my Halloween costume" t-shirt. After work I ate, did my last Inktober drawing and went to sleep. It was supposed to be a nap. I really should learn from my mistakes and set an alarm. The final Inktober prompt was landmark. I went to my photos and pencil drew a geomarker that I saw on one of my hikes. Then I drew a house because, for whatever reason, an old joke kept coming to my mind. I don't remember it well but it has to do with giving directions with a New England or maybe that classic Maine accent. Part of it was something like... you go that way, towards the Smith's house. It...

Penultimate Inktober

Image
LHere are some happy things from today: At work, after lunch break, I was moved from the path they started me in.  It seemed like out of the blue that they had me start training someone in the stow path.  Actually, train one person and try to keep an eye on four or five others.  There was a mistake made in the beginning of training the one person.  I think it ended up being a very good learning experience for them though.   Tomorrow, I'll be helping to train people as well.  I'm hoping to sleep well. Rear view foliage. The penultimate Inktober prompt is violin.   ☮ Currently listening to: The Dawn of Everything: A New History of Humanity , by David Graeber & David Wengrow. Long Day, Short Post

Image
Here are some happy things from today: The position I was in at work was Problem Solve.  There were many problems and I ended up working late.  Thankfully, TF was available for a phone call on my ride home.  She helped me stay awake! There is still a little bit of color in some of the trees.   For Inktober I was able to do two of the prompts, jumbo and navigation.  Completing these makes me caught up.  Just in time since there are two days left in the month!  🤣 ☮ Currently listening to: The Dawn of Everything: A New History of Humanity , by David Graeber & David Wengrow. First Snow

Image
Today we had the first snow (flurries) of the season.  Here are some happy things from today: Work sometimes offers up gifts for good performance.   This morning I had an email with gift options to choose from.  Considering the snow flurries this morning and how that and the cold sent me back under the covers, I chose a snow shovel.  Not just any snow shovel, but a Snow Joe Shovelution.  I watched some YouTube videos about it and decided that it is worth a shot.  Hopefully I won't need it often this winter.   There really were flurries, just not enough to see in the picture.  Thankfully, the weather cleared.  With temperatures close to 50 degrees and a bright sunny sky, Amy and I went for a walk.  We chose the same rail trail as last week.  We went about half of a mile more.  There was a tunnel, more ponds, and we found a parking lot that we can use if we want to explore farther down the rail trail.  For Inktober...

Balloon Spiders and Ticks

Image
Here are some of the happy things from today:  After yesterday's long day, I got up early today and went to an archery practice.  This is a different practice than I usually go to. It is in Massachusetts, about an hour away.  I used to go to this practice all the time when I was living with my aunt and my children were small.  They held a special shoot today for Halloween.  There were pictures of spiders on the targets.  There were also balloon spiders and ticks on the ground to shoot at.  When there were only a few balloons left, spears were pulled out to throw at the arachnids.   It was a fun shoot. Because of yesterday's long day, when I got home, I did some laundry and became a couch potato for most of the rest of the day.  I needed that.  The prompts I did today for Inktober are scarecrow and camera. ☮ Currently listening to: Abhorsen by Garth Nix. Title-less Thursday

Happy Thursday! Stepping outside in the extreme early morning I got to see the moon as it was just about to rise over the tree line.  A glow with just a spot of bright through the trees.  Orion was also in the sky, but not in the picture. At work, I ended up helping to train some new people.  It was good, I just wish that they had included me earlier in the process.  With the particular circumstances and number of people, two trainers would have been better from the beginning.  It was a good week.  I'm happy the work week is over.   I stepped outside as the sun was getting low on the horizon and the trees were reflecting an orange that I didn't see in the sunset.  It was very pretty.   In my struggle to get up-to-date with the Inktober prompts, I have not fallen further behind.  For today I did prompt 23, rust. ☮ Currently listening to: Lirael , by Garth Nix. Warm Wednesday

Image
Happy things from today: For the second night in a row at work I spent some time in the Problem Solve area.  I also trained someone else in the hazardous waste area.   The leaves in the back of the house have mostly fallen.  The trees close to the house have found their prime.  The temperatures have been in the upper 70's so far this week. For Inktober I chose to do two drawings again.  This puts me closer to being caught up.  The two prompts I drew today were uncharted and rhinoceros.   ☮ Currently listening to: Lirael , by Garth Nix. Back to Work

Image
Here are some happy Tuesday things: At work I started doing the task of picker.  Soon I was moved to the stowing task.  At break I was talking with coworkers about which tasks I would rather be in.  I said that for me, a bad day in Problem Solve is better than a good day stowing.  After lunch, Problem Solve needed help and I was moved there.  My coworker looked at me and I just smiled. The other coworker I had been talking to was moved to the aisles where I had been stowing.  I'd feel bad for him, but I'm not sure he minds as much.  I ended up working a twelve hour day because there were a lot of problems.  I still prefer Problem Solve.  Gideon will be running a Dungeons and Dragons campaign on Tuesday nights via the internet.  When I saw him this afternoon he was excited about it.  I'm happy for him.  Drive by foliage. For Inktober I did two drawings.  I did the ridge and camp prompts.   ☮ Currently listening to...

Walk at a Lake

Image
Happy Monday!  Here are some things that brought some joy to me today: On Mondays I try to get up early so I can get to sleep in the afternoon to be able to get up to work overnight Tuesday. I woke up before my alarm and I got some exercises in this morning.  Since I like spreadsheets, I also started one to keep track of what exercises I'm getting done. It is my goal to get at least something done everyday, more on days I don't work. Today I got a little bit of everything on the list done. The list will probably grow as I think of more more parts to exercise.  This afternoon I got to walk with my friends Amy and Stephanie. We walked along the Rockingham Rail Trail near Lake Massabesic. It was much busier than I expected for a Monday. We also had high temperatures around 79 degrees, so maybe I should have expected it.  Nice walk, great company. Ducks! The Inktober prompt I chose for today was drive. I don't really like either of the drawings I did, but the pen...

Archery

Happy things from today: This day started so much better than yesterday.  I got up at a reasonable time and went for a walk.  It was soon after dawn.  I saw a blue heron fly from the swamp it was in. Herons are so big!  There wasn't time for a picture. According to the news, foliage is at peak in this part of the state.  Most trees have turned color, a few are a little behind.  Moon It is Sunday so I went to the cafe with a friend this morning.  It was just the two of us since the other people who usually go are currently out of state.  I ordered something a little different than I tend to and it was really good.  The company was lovely. There was archery practice today with my friend Stephanie.  Amy was there, too and three other people.  It was a good turnout.  I shot okay, but not consistently, so my scores aren't quite as high as I'd like.  It was a lot of fun.  It would be great if I could take my highest s...
