Final Post for 2024

--Here are some happy things from this last day of the year: It was a working day for me.  It was busy and I left early.  I had three and a half hours of PTO and I decided to use them.  There was internal guilt, but everyone I told that I had PTO to use, agreed that I needed to use my time. Since I was home a little early, I went to DIY Craft & Thrift and helped finish up the store reset.  The store looks great and somehow seems to be more spacious.   After a nap, I went to the party Keziah and Zed were having.  The theme has to do with toasting in the New Year with jam.  Jam-bor-brie is what they called it this year.  I got to spend time with friends visiting and playing games.  I learned two new games; The Isle of Cats and Dixit.  We also played Carcassonne.   It was a lot of fun.  I need to play games more often. Spin the Lego wheel to choose your jam! My board toward the beginning of playing The Isle of Cats. The y...

Friday the Thirteenth

Happy things from today: For the fourth day in a row I was in the Problem Solve area at work. It has changed a lot this week. Because of snow and other random things the beginning of the week had an excessive amount of work. Thankfully, they started assigning more people to work there and we have been able to get all those packages processed, the area cleaned, and all but a few items that I didn't know how to dispose of in the hazardous waste area are cleaned up. Since I am not working a full shift tomorrow, I took a nap this afternoon. My dad used to take naps a lot in the afternoons when he wasn’t working. When I learned that was not something that most other father’s did, I thought it was weird. Over the years I have learned that naps are a wonderful thing. Today I was home to greet Gideon when he was home from school. Then I napped and got up in time to spend time with the rest of the family when they got home from their day jobs. The adults finally got to see the swea...

Nap Day

Thursday's mean sleep to me. Here are some happy things from Thursday: At work, I got in early and stayed a little late. It is something I get to do when I am training people. Today at work I finally had time to organize the web addresses I need to get various tasks done. Since every laptop I use is different, just saving bookmarks doesn't work. I have messaged them all to myself so they should be easy to find in the future. At home I ate, played a game on my phone, and slept. There was a little bit of watching the Mandalorian too. I even got a load of laundry done. The best part about laundry is that it can be happening while I take a nap! The Google Game for Thursday. Distractions happen. I should make that into a sticker. This is a brief sketch of a place my mind went today. I'm going to show it to Keziah tomorrow. It needs some embellishment and color, but I think the idea might work. Either way, it was fun to try to do.  What it doesn't need is an apo...

Learning and Training

Here are some happy things from Friday: Looking at my Facebook feed I was reminded that the aurora borealis was supposed to be visible. Many people saw it and shared some wonderful pictures.  I'm happy that it was visible to so many.  I left for work early and drove north of the city, but it was overcast and maybe too late.  No northern lights for me.  City lights reflected in the cloud cover. At work, I was trained to do the position of QA.  This isn't what I would expect the Quality Assurance position to look like, but I didn't name it.  Maybe it stands for something else?  Basically the person oversees the people stowing in a section of the building.  But oversee is maybe too strong a word?  Guides and coaches, moves people to the work, and problem solves what can be done before sending things to problem solve.  But not oversee as in discipline.  Whatever the correct word, I was trained in this last night.  It is also redire...

Dog

In bed, doom scrolling the internet, I suddenly realized that it was dark out.  That is the late afternoon I had.  Here are some happy things from today: Sometimes at work packages jam on the line and we have to shut it down for a few moments.  When that happens, packages stop being received.  Someone usually shouts out, “Line down!” so the people who didn't notice can stop working.  Because of where I was along the line I was asked to be louder, the people up from me couldn't hear over the music.  So I got loud.  It isn't something I do often.  Being loud, when one normally isn't, can have an element of fun.  😁 After work I took my tired self to visit a friend who had knee surgery and needs some help while they recover.  According to the weather app on my phone it was 95 degrees outside and felt like 106.  I took Andi, our friend's dog, for a walk.  This was my first time meeting Andi.  She is a very good dog and let me ...

Otter's Welcome

Some happy things from today: There is a picture I have from a few years ago of my adult children with lilacs in their hair.  This included Bel's generous beard.  Keziah picked some this morning so we could have some in our hair at an SCA event in Massachusetts, Otter's Welcome.  This is an event that is aimed with newcomers in mind.  There is a little bit of most categories to do or observe.  Keziah ran children's point.  I visited with a few people.   Keziah In the middle of the day I started falling asleep.  I ended up napping in the car for a little while.  There was a class I wanted to take, but it was when I was resting. This is also when the weather decided to rain.  That break was needed and I think I enjoyed the rest of the day more because of it. Some of the lilacs that Keziah picked, made it into my hair.  There were many compliments.  Me, photo credit to Keziah. The part of Massachusetts the event is in is the ...

Cookie!

Here are some happy things from this lovely Thursday: After work I had a nice little nap.  The little nap gave me a little energy later on.  I started installing the closet shelf.  I didn't get far though because the power screwdriver was at the store and my little energy was already running out.  Tomorrow I'll try to finish that. Yes, those are my feet resting against the wall. Over the stairway in my room there are three built-in shelves.  They are deep and I have been unsure about what to put in them.  It turns out I can easily fit two inkle looms on the middle shelf.  I'm sure other things will also find room on that shelf, but for now it is home to two looms.  The bottom shelf is currently a catch all area while I still try to set things up.  The top shelf will be things I don't need often. Looms inside their fabric bags. Keziah brought home cookies from a place called Social Club .  The cookie is a coffee cake cookie and it is deli...

Weird Sound

Image
As I write this I still haven't decided if I will go to work or not tonight.  There is a storm that started as rain, currently sounds like sleet or freezing rain, and is supposed to turn to snow.  I keep hoping work will cancel so I don't have to. Here are some happy things from today: The rain didn't start until after I got home from work.  Zed and Keziah got home from the store safely.  Keziah has already posted that the store will closed tomorrow due to weather. Frozen Droplets on Deck I took a nap this afternoon4 an⁵d slept deeply. Here is a funny story... The four of us were sitting in the living room watching Star Trek Voyager .  Keziah said something that I didn't quite hear.  The show is paused and all three of them get up, spread out, and start looking for the sound of paper being crinkled.  I stay on the couch, listening to the sleet gently tap the windows and wondering what I missed.  Zed comes downstairs and declares that Nanni, our ca...
