Slow Saturday

Image
It wasn't a very exciting day.  Compared to my last two weekends, today was bland.  Here are some happy things from today: Much of my day I stayed in my room with Netflix and stitching.  I finished my task on the garment and it is going back to its maker to be completed.  Yay! Between the apartment and the house is some goldenrod that I've been meaning to pull.  There were at least three bees pollinating it when I walked by.  I'm glad the bees were enjoying it.  I'll try to pull it before it goes to seed. Bee on goldenrod plant.  Later in the day I took some time to shuffle through some papers.  Some are in the shred pile, but many are in the recycle bin.  A tiny step toward downsizing was achieved!  Recycling.  I've opened my window and turned off the air conditioner.   There is occasional fresh air wafting in on the breeze.  Rain is gently falling and tapping on the house and yard. ☮ Currently listening to: Tal...

Hail, Hail!

Some happy things from today: This morning I got flustered.  A change happened that I wasn't expecting and I didn't handle it as well as I could have.  Thankfully I was able to pull it together after getting a hug from Keziah.  She was part of the Baronial Youth Tournament staff.  It is always uplifting to see her pursue her passions. It was fun to watch the youth fighters.  For the Baronial Youth Tournament, Baronial heads either have a champion at War, or are able to sponsor a youth from somewhere.  There are three divisions, based on age and ability.  There were two youths that Keziah and I got to sponsor.  Both of them did well.  The fighting was cut short due to inclement weather.  Rain doesn't usually stop the fighters, but coupled with thunder, it does. Back at the encampment the rain continued.  There was also hail for a little while.  The ground is saturated and there is a little stream going through the encampment and...

Rain, Rain

Happy things from today: Between heat and rain and generally trying to not break myself, set up isn't quite done.  I keep thinking it is, then I see something else I wanted to do.  Today the rain came down hard and often.  Everyone in our campsite seems to have come out the other side with only mild wetness.  This is good. My friend from Maine arrived.  I got to climb up into the back of her truck to push things forward for removal.  It made me feel like a kid for some reason.    There was a pretty butterfly under the canvas on the common tent for a little while.  I'm not exactly sure of the type. I had time to visit with a few different people today.  That is one of the benefits of rain I guess, people stay around at camp.  When it wasn't raining, I was able to visit people in other encampments. Pretty sky. I am extremely thankful to all the people who have helped align my tent a little better in all the rain.  So much water! ...

Monday of Peace Week

Image
Happy Monday! One of the weird things that made me happy today was watching my Leatherman dance.  I held the parts while my friend turned the tool in circles.  We didn't use it properly because the angle was weird.  My Leatherman looked like a ballerina. The shower works!  It took longer than I would have liked (as usual) but it is up and running.  I have plans to make it easier for next year.  Part of that is to organize all the parts better, and I think I've got a good start on that.  Yay! It rained.  What comes after rain?  A rainbow! We had our first fire tonight.  We bought less wood this year because we don't usually use it all.  Hopefully that was the right choice.  It was nice to sit around the fire and talk.  Next week there will be a Bard here, so maybe singing will happen later too. ☮ Continued reading:  My Wandering Uterus-tales of traveling while female , edited by K.A. Laity.  This book is an anthol...

A Really Long Post

Image
It was a long day with many things that happened.  Here are some happy things: It is sometime after midnight when I first step outside and experience fresh air.  There is the slightest breeze, the moon is close to full and everything feels open and clean.  It was a lovely start to my day. This one needs more information... Background info part 1: I work in a distribution center where packages come in and we sort them to be delivered to customers.  We don't put things into boxes, but sometimes things are damaged and we repackage them in the Problem Solve area into new packaging.  For the last few months the packing supplies haven't been getting replenished.  We have been making due with small envelopes, really small boxes and really big boxes.  We have gone through a lot of tape when we should be replacing a box or envelope. Background info part 2: There is a person I work with sometimes in Problem Solve that works there more than I and knows a lot....

Mother's Day

Image
Here are some happy things from Mother's Day: Keziah (my oldest) and I spent the day together at an SCA demo at the New Hampshire Renaissance Faire.  We talked to some interested people, but other wonderful volunteers did most of the talking.  There was a small archery range, some fighters and fencers, people spinning, weaving, sewing, and other fiber arts.  There was a table with archery things, one with games, and one with Forester's items.  I’m done working on the Kumihimo braid I started a really long time ago.  It just needs to come off the loom and the ends tied and cleaned up.  Here are some pictures from today. Weaving. An aerial act at the Faire. Archery The view behind the pavilion.  Rain in the distance on the drive home. Kumihimo. We were driving by a small wetland area and there were some ducks swimming.  As my eyes traveled back to the road, I thought I saw a penguin!  It was the underside of a duck with its head underwater. Bel...
