On the Property

Here are some happy things from today: It was an early morning for me so I could help Gideon get ready for school on time.  From there I went to the dentist for a filling.  This is not something that I want to do, but something I know I should do.  I'm happy it is behind me. Since it wasn't too far away, I went to Sierra and REI, two different stores that carry hiking supplies.  I'm hoping to take a short backpacking trip Friday into Saturday with my friend Stephanie.  One thing that I hadn't purchased yet was some kind of bear bag to hang.  Between the two stores I got some things that should do the job.  Then, who did I see at the store?  Stephanie.  Sometimes the timing just works.   I had to go home so I could grab some things and go to work.  They were looking for someone to come in for 1.5 hours and I decided to do it.  It is really weird to be at work, at that <i(time of day, and have energy.   At home ...

Autumnal Equinox

Image
Happy Autumn! Last night I slept on the couch and it didn't go too bad.  I expected to hurt more this morning.  Since I am still the parental figure for Gideon while his parents are away, I'm sleeping on the couch tonight, too.  I'll need to be up in the morning to get him to school and me to the dentist. Gideon, his friend, and I went to a cafe this morning where we met up with my friend (his friend's aunt).  The kids got to spend more time together.  I was able to do a little bit of hiking research.  I've decided I need to do an overnight somewhere before winter hits.   There was archery today.  I'm not shooting as well as I'd like.  However, I shot longer today than I have been and the very last six arrows were pretty good.  I forgot to take a picture of my scores.  The red, white, and blue Arrows are mine. Four of them were in the red and one in the blue for 19 points.  It was a timed round at 20 yards.  That is g...

Purple Flower

Image
Happy Saturday!  Here are some happy things from today: Did the almost seven hours of sleep I had last night make up for my lack of sleep on Thursday?  No.  But I feel a lot better. When I came home today I noticed a purple flower growing by the driveway.  According to Lens it is a Platycodon grandiflorus (Balloon flower).  I know I have seen this kind of flower, but I don't think it was in that part of the yard.  There is part of me that wishes my memory was better.  However, I love the way flowers come up unexpectedly.  At the studio, I finished painting the Stonemarche sheet wall.  Now I just have to remember to get it to Pennsic.  I am very thankful that other people in the Barony got this project started.  They did the hard part. For downsizing today I tried to go through three notebooks.  I made it through two before my back was bothering me and I stopped.  I have taken apart two more notebooks and separated them int...

A Really Long Post

Image
It was a long day with many things that happened.  Here are some happy things: It is sometime after midnight when I first step outside and experience fresh air.  There is the slightest breeze, the moon is close to full and everything feels open and clean.  It was a lovely start to my day. This one needs more information... Background info part 1: I work in a distribution center where packages come in and we sort them to be delivered to customers.  We don't put things into boxes, but sometimes things are damaged and we repackage them in the Problem Solve area into new packaging.  For the last few months the packing supplies haven't been getting replenished.  We have been making due with small envelopes, really small boxes and really big boxes.  We have gone through a lot of tape when we should be replacing a box or envelope. Background info part 2: There is a person I work with sometimes in Problem Solve that works there more than I and knows a lot....

Motion

Image
Here are some happy things from today: Things didn't go as planned today.  The battery for the drill died.  Forward motion happened with the closet rod though, that is good and hopefully it will be up soon.   The leaves on the rose bushes have opened.  No buds yet, but it looks nice. This afternoon, my friend, Amy, and I took a walk. Here are pictures of some of the flowering trees and things we saw. Rhododendron  Lilacs Something pretty and pink Close-up. Lens thinks it might be an azalea.  Red-wing black bird White petal carpeting I'm not sure the type of tree This evening some friends in the SCA and I had another technology night discussing the Wiki pages.  This time I got to work on my page as well as a friend’s.   ☮ Started re-listening to: Seedfolks , by Paul Fleischman. Thank you for being part of my happy things. Stay safe.

A New Plant!

Image
As I write this, the weather app on my phone says that it is 83 degrees outside.  I'm too tired to enjoy it much.  Each time I walk between the house and the apartment, I pause for a moment to appreciate it.  Here are some happy things from today: After not getting much sleep last night I made it through the entire ten hour shift without falling asleep.  The company made it hard, too.  There was a meeting about seven hours into the shift that I had to sit down for longer than I would normally.  Falling asleep in front of the person that runs the building I work in would have been bad.  😅 A week or so ago I noticed something growing in the triangle where the tulips and crocuses are.  I didn't look closely but I thought it was staghorn sumac and almost pulled it.  I'm glad I didn't, I think it is the peony I planted sometime last year.  Yay new plants! Peony? There are some other new things in the yard.  I assume that the flower and ...

May the Fourth

Image
It was a zero day as far as working in the apartment was concerned.  Here are some happy things from today: Archery practice was this morning.  I didn't shoot great, but I had a few moments that were in the archery zone.  It was nice to spend time with friends practicing. My arrows are the long ones. Leaving my friend's house I noticed a bird fly onto phone wires.  I think it was a hawk... After some errands, I drove to meet with other friends for a walk, dinner, and a movie.  Some of the lilac bushes in my friend's neighborhood are blooming.  I had a really good time with friends today. Lilacs Some flowers at my friend's house.  ☮ Finished listening to: Earthsea: The Tombs of Atuan, by Ursula K. Le Guin. Thank you for being part of my happy things. Stay safe.

Getting There

Image
It took me some time to get going today, so I didn't spend as much time getting the apartment ready.  Here are some happy things: Before going to the apartment to paint the bedroom more, I remembered to stretch.  That, and less time on the floor, means that I am feeling better tonight than I did last night. I'm sure more could be done, but I'm calling the wall where my bed will go and the one in the east side of the house done.  There is a stonewall and random, probably imaginary, flowers.  I like it, and since it is where I will be sleeping, that is what matters. The ceiling fan had seen better days.  The other day I painted it white.  Well, I think it was supposed to be white. Today I added color. All but one blade painted on Friday.  Yes, I did try to wash it first. Color! The bedroom windows are now as clean as I could get them.  Some of them tilted in to wash the outside better than others.  Once I'm in there, I will have a morning sun c...

Furniture Shopping

Happy Earth Day! The momentum from yesterday and the cleaning I did, remained for a little while to organize this morning before my therapy appointment. It felt good.   Outside I noticed that it won't be long before the tulips start to bloom.  The daffodils are doing well. Tulip Daffodils  After therapy, Keziah, Gideon, and I traveled to Ikea.  On the way, we stopped at the bank so Keziah could make a business deposit.  My job as a passenger, was to count the money and prepare it for the teller.  Driving down the highway while I counted, Keziah called it, “Highspeed accounting.”  🤣 Ikea is doing some remodeling, so it was smaller than usual.  We were still there for hours.  Gideon ended up with a clearanced floor model mattress.  That was fun to get into the van!  I think I still have the straps for moving my mattress, that will help in the next few days as we start moving things. Some random pictures I took of nature on the d...
