Boxes

Image
Here are a few happy things from my very tired today: When I got to work this morning the coworker I wrote about yesterday was entering the building at the same time as me.  I asked him if he was still happy about the boxes.  He told me how he had spent time yesterday organizing everything for ease of use.  I'm happy that he is happy. The lilacs have a short lifespan.  They still look and smell nice.  This might be my last picture of them though.   There are other flowers that will bloom soon.  I do love the lilacs. Lilacs TF sent me a package.  It is a llama mug that changes color with warm liquid.   The mug is covered with little pieces of Styrofoam.  Apparently the trip was bumpy.  Still, it arrived safely.      ☮ Currently listening to: Dune , by Frank Herbert. Otter's Welcome

Image
Some happy things from today: There is a picture I have from a few years ago of my adult children with lilacs in their hair.  This included Bel's generous beard.  Keziah picked some this morning so we could have some in our hair at an SCA event in Massachusetts, Otter's Welcome.  This is an event that is aimed with newcomers in mind.  There is a little bit of most categories to do or observe.  Keziah ran children's point.  I visited with a few people.   Keziah In the middle of the day I started falling asleep.  I ended up napping in the car for a little while.  There was a class I wanted to take, but it was when I was resting. This is also when the weather decided to rain.  That break was needed and I think I enjoyed the rest of the day more because of it. Some of the lilacs that Keziah picked, made it into my hair.  There were many compliments.  Me, photo credit to Keziah. The part of Massachusetts the event is in is the ...

Motion

Image
Here are some happy things from today: Things didn't go as planned today.  The battery for the drill died.  Forward motion happened with the closet rod though, that is good and hopefully it will be up soon.   The leaves on the rose bushes have opened.  No buds yet, but it looks nice. This afternoon, my friend, Amy, and I took a walk. Here are pictures of some of the flowering trees and things we saw. Rhododendron  Lilacs Something pretty and pink Close-up. Lens thinks it might be an azalea.  Red-wing black bird White petal carpeting I'm not sure the type of tree This evening some friends in the SCA and I had another technology night discussing the Wiki pages.  This time I got to work on my page as well as a friend’s.   ☮ Started re-listening to: Seedfolks , by Paul Fleischman. Nature Awakens

Image
Although I got over six hours of sleep last night (more than usual), I was dragging considerably by the time I got out of work.  I'm hoping for another early bedtime.  Here are a few happy things from today: It isn't my favorite thing to do at work, but I ended my shift doing driver assist and that is mostly outside.  Yesterday the temperature was in the low 80's, today it is in the mid 60's.  There was an occasional light mist and it was wonderful to be out in it.   At home the lilacs are starting to bloom and smell lovely.  I'm glad they are not a source of allergies for me. The maple tree is full of leaves.  There are other trees that take their time opening leaves.   Sugar maple. A Norway maple and lilacs on the left. In the back, miscellaneous trees with leaves at varying degrees of openness.  ☮ Currently listening to: The Body Keeps the Score , by Bessel Van Der Kolk.  Thank you for being part of my happy things. Happy Monday!

Image
Here are some happy things from today: A memory: Back when I was a paraeducator, there was a student who used to say “Happy First Thursday!” on Mondays.  There were four Thursdays in a week.  I'm not sure how much this mind trick worked, but it was fun to hear.  So, happy first Thursday! It was a beautiful day to hang laundry outside to dry.  This prompted me to take a closer look at the lilacs and other flowering plants.  I have been concerned that I hadn't noticed any lily-of-the-valley yet.  Apparently I just wasn't paying attention!  They are up and starting to open. The purple lilacs are almost ready to open. Lily-of-the-valley! One of the problems I've had in my new bedroom is light.  I love that I made the walls light and more cheerful in appearance than my other room.  However, that room had shades, this one did not.  Today I bought the cheapest shade available, to see how I like it.  It is made of paper and it definitely bl...

May Day/Beltane

Image
Happy May Day!  Apparently, along with May Day and Beltane, today is Mother Goose Day.  Here are some happy things from today: The leaves on the lilac are almost completely out.  Can you tell I'm eager for them to bloom? My protege and I had a nice little visit when she gave me a ride to the auto place today.  It is always nice to spend time with a friend. I now own a car.  It is very used, but I hope to get some good use out of it.  It is a Kia Optima, 2010.  It is quite different from Zed's Kia Nero.  Now we will need to be more specific when referring to the cars in the driveway.  Saying we need to move the Kia won't be enough. Keziah named her van Gracie.  Zed has named his car Apollo.  Now I just need to come up with a name for mine.   ☮ Continued listening to: Earthsea: The Tombs of Atuan , by Ursula K. Le Guin. Lilac

Image
Here are some things that made me smile on this Wednesday: When I left for work the moon was full and shining down through a very thin layer of clouds. On my drive to work, I believe I saw a fox safely cross the street. At home, the leaves on the lilacs are getting bigger and the tiniest signs of the flower buds have started. Coming downstairs to hear Gideon singing, really loud.  I wasn't able to work in the apartment today.  I did walk over to see how it looks and how far Keziah got yesterday.  There are some spots that we need to find the extender for the paint rollers in order to finish.  I think it all needs another coat to cover up the brown/orange that was there.  Soon it will be done. ☮ Currently listening to: The Life We Bury , by Allen Eskens. Spring Storm

Image
Somehow I forgot to practice DuoLingo yesterday.  I guess storm anticipation had me distracted.  For the first time in a long time I used the game option of freezing my streak. Here are some happy things from today: The storm did not keep me from work.  At around one in the morning, the roads were in pretty good shape.  I think I must have timed both going to and coming home from work close to when the road crews were out.   Some of the trucks that deliver packages to my job were late.  There was some down time with nothing much to do.  Eventually, busy work was created.  The building was weirdly quiet when we didn't have freight to process.  I'm glad I went, now my work week can be done. After work, the managers and HR went outside and started cleaning off people's cars.  It was a nice way for them to thank us for making the trip in.  At home I tried to sleep, but couldn't.  I did let myself be snowbound for the rest of t...

Happy Spring!

Image
Happy first day of spring! My work week is two thirds of the way over.  We had a Safety Committee meeting today.  They had some new vests for us.  That is good because mine is not looking clean anymore, no matter how much I seem to wash it.   I'm looking forward to the first weekend of spring.  It might snow.   The leaf buds on the lilac are more noticeable today.  I know some people are allergic to the flower, I love them.  The flower blooms sometime in May usually. ☮ Currently listening to: Divergent Mind , by Jenara Nerenberg.  Thank you for being part of my happy things. Eyes Open

Image
Happy things from today: Last night at work I'm fairly certain I fell asleep on my feet a few times.  It was just brief parts of a second that my eyes didn't want to stay open.  I'm also fairly certain this went unnoticed, I'm happy about that.  When I got home, I sat down in my room and did what I could to keep warm while practicing my DuoLingo.  It turns out, I couldn't keep my eyes open for long.  I went to the living room with a blanket, ate, then again, drifted off.  When I would think about writing this blog, all I could think of was sleep.  So I went outside.  Now, when I should be winding down to sleep, I'm awake. 😂 What I found outside was that it felt warmer than inside (it wasn't).  The sky and trees are beautiful.  The lilac bush is showing leaf buds.  The crocuses I took a picture of yesterday are open.  💜 ☮ Currently listening to: Divergent Mind , by Jenara Nerenberg.
