Anxiety

Image
As I write this, the news is suggesting that yesterday's election did not go as I had hoped.  My anxiety has been high today.  Working with another person for a little while helped lesson it for those few hours.  At home, I lost myself in some shows on the TV.  As I search for happy things from today, this is what I have: The stars were shining brightly when I left for work.  When I went outside at work while it was still dark, I again looked for a star (they are harder to find when I'm in a lighted parking lot) and found some.  The stars brought me glimmers of joy. At work, it was weird how being sarcastic over what is considered a hazardous waste was able to make me laugh.   The crocheted thing I've been trying to put together to hold the walkie talkie at work doesn't seem to perform as I had hoped.  I have other ideas now though.  I told a coworker about this and commented how I lost my crochet hook somewhere.  I shouldn't have l...

Frost

Image
Here are some happy things from today: It was a cold night that left the world near me covered with a layer of glistening frost. On Friday, I took an extra shift for today. Ever since then, I've been thinking of things to do today and then reminding myself that I had to work.  I'm happy to say that today I remembered and got to work on time this morning.  I only worked a little less than three hours, but money is good. After work, I was able to be productive.  I did the dishes and laundry.  I also sorted through some things and recycled or shredded some paper.  I found my Halloween jewelry, a little late. 👻 I did some more crocheting.   I think it is too big and won't work.  However, I want to try.  ☮ Currently listening to: The Dawn of Everything: A New History of Humanity , by David Graeber & David Wengrow. Thank you for being part of my happy things. Stay safe.

Trying

Image
Happy things from today: Before I fell asleep last night I made a list of things to do today.  I'm happy to say that I did most of the things on that list today.  Yay, productivity! There was a side quest that I failed with today.  I found a gift certificate for Barnes & Noble.  I went to the store, determined to use the gift certificate, and didn't.  There were a few things I had in mind, and they weren't there.  This still makes my list of happy things because I tried, and because I didn't settle for something I didn't really want.  I'm trying to downsize, I did not just buy something and that is good.   Sunset! The house smelled like garlic tonight.  I made dinner.  Keziah and Zed were very happy to come home from working at the store to dinner already made for them. Before bed, I started to crochet something.  I want to make a little carrying case for the work radio.  I'm making the pattern up as I go along. Unfort...

Fun Friday

Image
Happy things from today: The flowering plant I saw, briefly, yesterday in the front yard was not a daffodil.  According to the Lens app it is a Fritillaria pudica or yellow bell. It is apparently native to the north western United States and western Canada.   This afternoon I met a friend at a Cafe for lunch.  We discussed plans for some of the upcoming SCA events and specifically, Pennsic.  She will be doing much of the work this year getting ready for the two week long event instead of me.   After our Pennsic planning lunch I got my passport photo taken and then we went for a walk up to the fire tower. In the evening I made it back out of the house to Craft Night.  It was nice to visit with friends.  A weird thing I learned is that the fabric on a pool table is called baize.  I got some crocheting done too.  I've been making a container to hold a water bottle.  I need to find a water bottle because I think I am close to finis...

Happy Groundhog’s Day

Image
Happy things from Groundhog’s Day: It was not a good day to spin the wheel, but I'm happy I did.  Or perhaps the problem is that the arrow landed on ‘box’.  The deal with myself is that I will work for fifteen minutes on cleaning or straightening or sorting what the arrow lands on.  I opened three different boxes in fifteen minutes.  I am not ready to part with any of it.  Should I be?  Yes, I should.  The first box the items were in a bag that said, “Keep.”  It seemed to be my mom's personal things, like letters.  The second box had linens- tablecloths, napkins and such.  I thought that these are things I can use when I move into the mother-in-law apartment. The third box had winter clothes.  I pulled out a few items to use.  I did find a skirt that I don't know where it came from, but I don't want it.  So that makes one less thing.  That is good and gives me hope that I will find more things to say goodbye to. The ...
