Christmas Day

Image
Merry Christmas!  Happy Hanukkah! Happy Whatever-you-do-on-this-day Day! Here are some happy highlights from my day: The rest of the family got up much later than I did.  Eventually everyone had eaten and presents were exchanged.  All the gifts were wonderful, however, Gideon won Christmas this year.  He created a scavenger hunt for Keziah that included us all.  Keziah got the first clue and each of us had a piece of the map and key.  "Gnomes" had hidden clues around the place and we had to find them.  Each clue had a gnome that Gideon had made, a gift for someone, and another clue.  Gideon did such a good job.  He used hints, YouTube, and the app What3Words to help lead us to the next clue.  We had a blast! My stocking haul.  They were all similar. That stocking of mine is almost as old as I am. There is a company that makes shirts based on old stores that have gone out of business.  My mom used to work for both Zayre and Ames...

Venus

Here are some happy things from my day back to work: All of last week they assigned me to the Problem Solve area for at least part of the day. Somehow, I ended up there today as well. I hope I remember how to do the other tasks when I am assigned there.  😉 That will probably be tomorrow. 😂 Gideon was in a good mood when he got home from school.  Before he went to do his homework we talked a little.  My grandson is such a good human.  His hugs are pretty sweet too. I stepped outside to enjoy the sunset twice.  There are pictures so you can maybe enjoy it too.   I blew the last photo up to make the star visible.  Actually, I'm fairly certain that it is the planet Venus. ☮ Continued listening to: Daindreth's Sorceress , by Elisabeth Wheatley. Oops, Phone

Today went so much better than I thought it might.  Here are some happy things: At work, the beginning and end of the day I was training people.  I’m still happy training people.  In the middle of my day I got to be a QA.  I was trained in that about a month ago and not assigned there again until today.  There were definitely things I forgot, but I did okay.  While leaving I was talking with my coworker about having kids and she couldn’t believe that I had a thirty year old and a thirty-four year old.  I chose to show her my license to prove my age.  There was also a person who randomly asked me if I wanted to see pictures of his seven month old daughter.  Adorable!   When Gideon came home from school today he gave me a big hug.  He even called me Gramma, he usually calls me Jeanne.  It was wonderful. Keziah broke her phone today.  This may not seem like a happy thing, but it is the only thing that I took a picture of...

Back to Work

Image
Here are some happy Tuesday things: At work I started doing the task of picker.  Soon I was moved to the stowing task.  At break I was talking with coworkers about which tasks I would rather be in.  I said that for me, a bad day in Problem Solve is better than a good day stowing.  After lunch, Problem Solve needed help and I was moved there.  My coworker looked at me and I just smiled. The other coworker I had been talking to was moved to the aisles where I had been stowing.  I'd feel bad for him, but I'm not sure he minds as much.  I ended up working a twelve hour day because there were a lot of problems.  I still prefer Problem Solve.  Gideon will be running a Dungeons and Dragons campaign on Tuesday nights via the internet.  When I saw him this afternoon he was excited about it.  I'm happy for him.  Drive by foliage. For Inktober I did two drawings.  I did the ridge and camp prompts.   ☮ Currently listening to...

TW: Bug

Here are some happy bits from today: For unknown reasons it has been busier than anticipated at work.  This has meant that very little training has happened this week on my road to being a real Learning Ambassador.  So far, I've taken the required computer courses and in-person class, but nothing new that is hands-on.  Today I had another online course.  I also added my name to other lists to learn new things.  Yay, more learning! While taking care of some things in the yard today a rather large bug scared me.  I dropped what I was holding.  Closer inspection revealed a rather large praying mantis.  Hopefully it found its way out of the driveway after recovering from me dropping it. The not-so-happy news is that Gideon didn't get a part in the school play.  The good thing is that he took the information better than he would have a year ago.   Gideon doesn't like the way his English Language Arts class will read a little of a book an...

Welcome, October

Image
Happy October!  Here are a few happy things: Work was understaffed last night.  I worked an extra two hours.  My feet are sore and I have just over 30,000 steps on my Fitbit.  That said, I'm glad I was able to stay late and help out.  Gideon tried out for a play at school today.  I'm happy that he has found something he likes to do that is an extracurricular activity. For Inktober today the prompt is Backpack .  I happened to have one to look at as a model.  My drawings seem identifiable to me.  That makes it a great start.  I should mention that I think Inktober was started for people to practice art who might want to become a tattoo artist.   At least that is what I remember from previous years.  I have no desire to become a tattoo artist. First in pencil. Then pen with some background. ☮ Currently listening to: The Silmarillion , by J. R. R. Tolkien.  Thank you for being part of my happy things. Stay safe.

Safety Pelican

Image
Earlier this afternoon I slipped and fell outside in the rain.  I'm doing my best to not let it get me down.  Here are some happy things for this wet Thursday!! At work I completed my training to become a Learning Ambassador.  I was given a new vest with blue trim instead of green.  Green was for the Safety Committee.   Since I am still part of the Safety Committee I get to put words on the back of my vest to show that.  I chose Safety Pelican. The tunic I have been working on is completed.  All I did was the hand stitching of the blue trim onto the gray.  Someone else did the machine sewing to construct the tunic. Gideon's school had an open house.  We got to see his classrooms and meet some of the teachers.  Someone from work has a child in Gideon's class.  I wasn't expecting that. ☮ Currently listening to: The Silmarillion , by J. R. R. Tolkien.  Thank you for being part of my happy things. Stay safe.

Autumnal Equinox

Happy Autumn! Last night I slept on the couch and it didn't go too bad.  I expected to hurt more this morning.  Since I am still the parental figure for Gideon while his parents are away, I'm sleeping on the couch tonight, too.  I'll need to be up in the morning to get him to school and me to the dentist. Gideon, his friend, and I went to a cafe this morning where we met up with my friend (his friend's aunt).  The kids got to spend more time together.  I was able to do a little bit of hiking research.  I've decided I need to do an overnight somewhere before winter hits.   There was archery today.  I'm not shooting as well as I'd like.  However, I shot longer today than I have been and the very last six arrows were pretty good.  I forgot to take a picture of my scores.  The red, white, and blue Arrows are mine. Four of them were in the red and one in the blue for 19 points.  It was a timed round at 20 yards.  That is g...

Movie Time

Image
Some happy things from today:. Last Christmas I gave Zed a toilet seat and a new bidet attachment.  I finally installed them this morning.  It shouldn't have taken so long.  Now that I live in the apartment, I don't use that bathroom anymore and I forgot.  The installment ended up being his birthday present.  I'm happy it is done. Gideon and I went to see Beetlejuice Beetlejuice with some friends this afternoon.  It was pretty good.  My opinion is that most of the funny parts were at the end, less were interspersed in the movie. Maybe I'm old though and just didn't get some of the jokes. After the movie I brought Gideon and his friend back to the house. My friend brought dinner over. It was nice to get to sit and visit for a while. Gideon's parents are away, his friend is staying overnight, and I'm sleeping on the couch. I was expecting a late night, but everyone seemed to want to go to sleep early. This makes me happy. Asters ☮ Thank you for bei...

Tour

Happy Friday! People staffing the SCA event the Barony is having in October were visiting the event site and I asked to join them.  The event site has a few floors and multiple rooms.  I could tell that I would be more comfortable if I saw the location prior to attending.  This is something that usually only staff members would attend.  As Baroness, I'm sort of staff? Anyhow, I went.  It is a beautiful building with many architectural peculiarities so I am really happy I was able to get the behind-the-scenes tour.  It is a Masonic Temple.  Apparently it was built to not burn and to be a fallout shelter.  I only took a few pictures.   The other side of a ceiling. The lockers have a hat hook Circuit box I think. Old elevator workings. Tomorrow Gideon and I are meeting friends at the movies to see Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.  So tonight we had to watch Beetlejuice.  Gideon really enjoyed it.  He walked around with a Reggie of beat af...

A Bit of Blue

Image
The SCA event this coming weekend is a little complicated.  I am doing more things for it than I planned to in a smaller amount of time.  There are surprise awards that are happening that need preparation.  Some of that happened today.  Here are the happy things I can talk about: This morning, I drove to a friend's house and dropped off the sewing I was helping her out with.  That is now out of my hands. Yay! Earlier I had been perusing Facebook Marketplace for a treadmill.  There was one for free not far from my friend's house so I checked it out.  The first thing I decided after seeing it was that I probably couldn't fit it into my car.  I drove by and pulled over at a parking lot to do some more research.  It seems that it is a good possibility that the treadmill weighed over 100 pounds.  So the second thing I decided is that I wouldn't have been able to lift it by myself.  The third thing I decided is that if I ever get a treadm...
