Nostalgia

Happy first day of December.   Here are some things from today that made me happy: When I finally got up and got going this morning, I made a list and stuck to it.  I went through a box and emptied it.  Some of it went to the trash and some just got moved around/put away.  There was a pile of Avon jewelry that I kept.  Everything was still in the boxes.  This is a problem I have, keeping boxes.  The jewelry is now put away and the boxes are in the recycle bin.  Yay, downsizing!   I also did some cleaning in my room, laundry, and dishes.  In my room I have a thing my mom made when I was a kid. It hangs and has little pockets on it. I'm sure I thought the fabric was really groovy.  Apparently I still do since I want to keep it.  I've been trying to figure out what to use it for and realized last week that my wallet fits into one of the pockets quite nicely.  I had some pins on it too and added some more from the je...

Memory

Fridays are becoming a day that I don't get much done.  I'm going to try to work on that next week.  Here are some happy things from today: This morning I woke up early and stayed in bed way too long.  Eventually I got up and cleaned the bathroom before taking a shower.  This seemed like a wonderful accomplishment.  The internet grabbed me again after and I didn't have breakfast until about noon.  The research rabbit hole and short videos took up more time than it should.  There is another item in my online cart to be ordered and my bathroom is clean.  That is two wins. My friend, TF, called in the afternoon.  We talked for around two hours.  During that time I took a walk, saw the sunset, and the full moon rise. The white glow among the trees is the moon. Sunset and Venus. For a short time I went through a box.  There are things from that box that I want to keep, and some I don't.  There are craft things like fabric scraps, us...

Happy Birthday, Keziah!

Image
Happy things from today:  My oldest turned 34 today. Approximately two weeks and 34 years ago I was at an SCA event Celebrating the third birthday of the Barony of Stonemarche.  I was asked how I remember that.  When a person attends an event on or very close to a child's due date, it helps that time be remembered. As a family we celebrated by going out for breakfast.  Keziah chose the Windmill which has, in our opinion, the best French toast around.  We talked a bunch about yesterday's event.  It was a filling morning!  I dressed for the season today. After a little rest, I headed to archery practice.  Stephanie brought the thrones back to her house after the event because she had room in her car.  I brought the van to archery to pick them up and practice.  My first round of Royal Rounds I shot better than I have in a long time.  The first two arrows that flew off my bow landed in the gold.   These are the first six arrow...

So Long September

Image
As September comes to a close I have been enjoying the memories I have made recently.  The hiking, archery, SCA events and time with family and friends.  I'm looking forward to October.  The leaves will change color and fall.  The air will become a little crisper.  We may even see a touch of snow, it could happen.  Tomorrow I will begin participating in Inktober .  Technology being an easy thing to lose, break, or simply for batteries to die, I want to practice drawing.  Here are some other happy things from today: Yesterday, in conversations with relatives, I remembered that I purchase stock in my company every paycheck.  Today I looked at the account and learned that I haven't lost anything at this time.  There is only a slight gain, but I've been putting a little money toward this long enough that I am happy with the current amount.  If the stock prices don't fall, I'll be even more happy.   Keziah has been at an SCA ev...

Long Day Ending the Weekend

Image
I fell asleep often writing this.  Here are some happy things from today: My friend Stephanie and I got things mostly packed up in camp and headed for the Milan Hill Fire Tower.  It is located within the campground we were at so it wasn't really hard to find.  There is a picnic pavilion and yard that make this a neat outside party destination.  There were more spectacular mountain views.  We saw the hills we drove through to get there.  Somehow I forgot to take the selfie on top of the Fire Tower.  Instead of climbing back up, I took a picture of me at the bottom. We had our tents set up in this lean-to.  The trail up. That was it. Pretty much all of it. Geo marker! Selfie. After, we finished packing and we headed home.  In Franconia Notch we pulled over for a pit stop and saw the Basin.  The Basin brings back memories for me of when I was very young.  The memories are faded enough that they could have happened at some other flowing...

Happy Birthday, Bel!

Image
Thirty years ago today I gave birth to one baby who today turns 30 and goes by Bel.  We thought Bel was going to have a twin sibling.  It turns out that ultrasounds aren't always correct, or I have a mirror in my back?  😉  Today my youngest lives in Maryland and even though they just finished visiting two days ago, I miss them.  Bel is a marvelous hiking buddy.  Next year we are hoping to hike the Appalachian Trail together.   Other happy things from today: I had my first complete physical since before the pandemic.  I say complete physical, but I always feel like something was forgotten.  Anyway, the doctor thinks I'm good to live for another day.  🤣 This weekend I have plans to go hiking and camping with a friend.  In preparation, I tried to set up my tent in my bedroom.  That was a failure so I took it outside.  I think it will go up easier with stakes, but for now, I have refreshed my memory enough that I think ...

Sleepy Time

Image
Yesterday I got very little sleep.  What I did get was a broken sleep that probably totaled around three hours.  Because of that I'm going to try to sleep instead of being productive.  Here are some happy things from my day: Even with the limited amount of sleep I managed to work my full 10 hour shift.   I've decided that it is a good day for a proof of life photo.  Very little of me is in the photo.  This is about something I'm choosing to keep.  The daisies in the picture were painted for me by my maternal grandmother.  They are on my hopechest.  I wish my memory was better, the chest once belonged to some ancestor whose name I have forgotten and who died before I was born.  Great Aunt Sally comes to mind, except I'm not sure if I ever had a Great Aunt Sally.  Either way, it is special to me.  In my new room it is on top of my closet where I can see it.  It was hiding before.  It is a little worse for wear, but...

Concert

Image
Happy Back to Work Tuesday. For the last task of my work night, I was outside assisting drivers getting the packages to the trucks.  This meant I was back and forth between inside and outside.  I got some sun and fresh air.  It also really tired me out.  Which was a good thing, because… After work I let myself take a nap.  It was important today, I was able to wake up to go to the middle school concert.  Gideon, my grandson, is part of the seventh grade chorus. They tried to have this concert last week, but a storm came.  It rained a little about an hour or two before tonight's concert, too. Just enough that there were quite a few umbrellas to be seen.   As a child, I don't think I considered the songs we sang in chorus.  As an adult, I must say that it seems weird to hear the kids sing African American Slave music.  Perhaps if we knew they were studying that Era?  It wasn't Gideon's grade, so I don't know.  They all did w...
