Wicked Long Day and Post

Image
Last night I got home rather late and this morning I got up early.  It was hard to get out of bed this morning.  I did though. I was only about 30 minutes later to the SCA event, Coronation, than I wanted to be. I wanted to be early, and was just about on time.  Keziah hasn't been feeling well and decided to stay home rather than possibly get others sick too.  Here are some special moments from today: At different points throughout the day I asked for random bits of help from people.  Mostly things like, “Can you carry this for me?”  There was always someone there.  Sometimes the question is asked, and there is just no person available to lend a hand.  Today, I saw many helpers and this was good. Background:  What generally happens at a Coronation is the outgoing Majesties hold their final court.  It usually consists of lots of thank yous and jobs well done.  At the end there is a ceremony in which the Prince and Princess come in, o...

Safety Pelican

Image
Earlier this afternoon I slipped and fell outside in the rain.  I'm doing my best to not let it get me down.  Here are some happy things for this wet Thursday!! At work I completed my training to become a Learning Ambassador.  I was given a new vest with blue trim instead of green.  Green was for the Safety Committee.   Since I am still part of the Safety Committee I get to put words on the back of my vest to show that.  I chose Safety Pelican. The tunic I have been working on is completed.  All I did was the hand stitching of the blue trim onto the gray.  Someone else did the machine sewing to construct the tunic. Gideon's school had an open house.  We got to see his classrooms and meet some of the teachers.  Someone from work has a child in Gideon's class.  I wasn't expecting that. ☮ Currently listening to: The Silmarillion , by J. R. R. Tolkien.  Thank you for being part of my happy things. Stay safe.

Working Wednesday

Happy things from today: One of my coworkers wore a Creeper hat today.  A Creeper is one of the monsters in the Minecraft computer game that I used to play just about every week.  This coworker is Keziah’s age.  He was surprised I played computer games, he didn't peg me as a gamer.  I didn't get the chance to tell him how my teenage paychecks were spent at arcades or that my ex-husband was a game programmer/designer for a while.  I like being a little unpredictable at times. 😁 Packing for the event this weekend didn't go as I had hoped.  I'm happy for the progress that was made.  The rest can happen Friday morning. When I became a member of the Order of the Pelican in 2015 I was given a little wooden Pelican.  I found it recently and it makes me happy.   ☮ Currently listening to: Tales From Earthsea , by Ursula K. Le Guin. Thank you for being part of my happy things. Stay safe.

GNE Day Three

Happy Saturday SCA things: A few days ago I ordered something that was delivered after I left for the event.  Gideon was driven up with a friend and they were kind enough to bring the box to the event as well.  Because of that, I was able to fly my banner outside our tent.   It is never a good thing when an ambulance shows up at an event.  Today in the heat one of my champions fell on the field and was brought to the hospital.  I am so thankful that they made it back to the event to tell their story. There was a vorpal rabbit archery shoot that I took the time to do.  I shot it twice, the first time I misunderstood the rules and so I counted that as a practice.  The second time I scored a total of 20 points out of the 21 possible.  It was a fun shoot. During morning court a dear friend was called in and asked to join the Order of the Pelican.  This is the highest award for service in the SCA.  She was asked at morning court, took th...

Event Day in Connecticut

Happy things from today: On the way out of the driveway this morning I noticed a new flower.  I think it is a paperwhite/narcissus.  Keziah commented that it bloomed just in time for Mother's Day. Keziah and I went to Connecticut today for an event.  A Baron and Baroness were stepping down and a new pair stepped up in that Barony.  The former Baroness has been helpful to me over the years.  If I get the opportunity, maybe I can be helpful to the new ones.   We have a friend that is a leader in the youth fighting community.  She needed help and Keziah was able to step up and help marshal the youth fighters. We got to visit with a dear friend and I got to hold her 14 month old for a few minutes.  He is starting to get curious. He is napping. We also had a friend elevated to the Order of the Pelican.  That is the highest level award for service in the SCA.  Like me, she received it in part for her service as an exchequer (treasurer)....

Too Much & Not Enough Ice

Happy Saturday things: Somehow, I slept more than eight hours last night.  It has been months, and it feels pretty good. My friend, Amy, and I went for a walk at Livingston Park today.  The trail was pretty icy.  We both remembered to bring our Exospikes.  The walk went much better after we put them on.  I'm not sure if the pond there froze over completely or not this winter, but it isn’t now.  What ice there is on the pond isn't safe, and it is just the beginning of February.  If I decide to go skating, it will be at a rink this year.  With temperatures getting to around 60 degrees today, I'm glad I had short sleeves on.   Keziah had a virtual vigil for her upcoming elevation in the SCA.  In a few short weeks she will become a Laurel, the highest level award we have for the arts and sciences.  One of her good friends is also being elevated but to a Pelican, the highest award we have for service.  I got to speak with...
