Nostalgia

Happy first day of December.   Here are some things from today that made me happy: When I finally got up and got going this morning, I made a list and stuck to it.  I went through a box and emptied it.  Some of it went to the trash and some just got moved around/put away.  There was a pile of Avon jewelry that I kept.  Everything was still in the boxes.  This is a problem I have, keeping boxes.  The jewelry is now put away and the boxes are in the recycle bin.  Yay, downsizing!   I also did some cleaning in my room, laundry, and dishes.  In my room I have a thing my mom made when I was a kid. It hangs and has little pockets on it. I'm sure I thought the fabric was really groovy.  Apparently I still do since I want to keep it.  I've been trying to figure out what to use it for and realized last week that my wallet fits into one of the pockets quite nicely.  I had some pins on it too and added some more from the je...

Sorting

Here are some happy things from today: They fed us at work today.  I looked at the work engagement calendar and it looks like we will get something on Thursday, too.  It was Chinese food today and I got some fried rice.   After work I had a message from Keziah about working on the boxes in the apartment.  I thought it sounded like a great idea, until I got home and was exhausted.  I think I fell asleep for a little bit, and she ended up running late, so I had a little bit of energy.  She has a friend that came and helped us too. We didn't have a lot of time and things were mostly just moved around.  Many things need to go to either DIY Craft & Thrift or the studio.  Most of the studio things are going to the storage unit for now.  We need to organize the studio again too.  I took some before and after pictures.  There is still a long way to go. Long Monday

Image
Ice (hail or sleet or ...) woke me in the middle of the night bouncing off the window air conditioner.  Soon after I also heard a roll of thunder.  Somehow, I let those sounds lull me back to sleep.  Here are some other happy things from today: This morning I had an appointment for my ultrasound.  Every year I have an ultrasound and appointments to monitor my thyroid because I have Hashimoto's Disease.  Today I had two ultrasounds.  First, a student did everything, then a licensed tech came in, and did it all again.  I also had a thyroid blood test. So I have been poked and prodded!  I'm just happy that it is done. Keziah and I met at the SCA storage unit to put away the things we had borrowed to use at the last event.  We managed to leave one bin at home.  I'll be back in a few weeks to pick up other things.  It has been a busy time.  Someone who works there brings their dog and plays with them in the long hallways.  They...

Projects Day

Image
It was important to me that I wake up early today to do laundry.  I forgot.  Eventually, I remembered that there were hands on my time and I jumped out of bed to start my day.  Here are some happy highlights: The studio was my first stop.  Someone had given me fabric for favors and I needed to finish getting the fabric sewn so that another person can use their Cricket to put a design on them.  I'm happy to say that I sewed together thirteen favors and they should be on the way to their next step. Using the sewing machine this morning while the sun was shining in the window was very pleasant.   At home, I helped Keziah clean the kitchen.  It is overdue for a deep clean.  That won't be finished today, but there has been a vast improvement.  ☮ Currently listening to: Tales From Earthsea , by Ursula K. Le Guin. Thank you for being part of my happy things. Stay safe.

Friends for Friday

Image
The amount of downsizing I did was minimal.⁵  Some things got moved around and thrown away.  Mostly I puttered.  Here are some happy Friday things: After being awake far too long yesterday, it was super hard to get out of bed today.  That didn't help my productivity.  I believe it did help my mood though, so that was good. The banner I've been working on got a little more green paint.  I'm hoping to get back to the studio tomorrow to finish it up. My friend Amy came to the studio to hang out, go for a walk, and participate in Tech Night.  We walked a little on a Winant Park trail.  Both of us decided that hills are hard, even short ones.  We might be looking for more hills to climb this summer. There were at least eight people who came to Craft Night to work on their East Kingdom Wiki pages.  I noticed that we all seemed to have a a good time and it seemed to be productive.  This morning I did a silly thing with my hair.  ...

Busy Day

Image
Last night  I was only able to get around five hours of sleep.  I tried to sleep in, but couldn't.  Here are some happy things from today: My morning was productive.  Not only did I get most of what I needed for this weekend's SCA event packed, but some cleaning, laundry and other random chores also got done. With my downsizing tasks I was able to go through another notebook and get rid of a few more things.  I got the shredder and filled the bucket one time. Keziah was around in the afternoon and we were able to sit and talk for a little while.  It seems like it has been a long time since we were able to just sit and talk about things.   It was nice.    At the studio, the person I've been trying to help make garb, finished all but the hems and embellishments.  It is good first garb.  I am sleeping at a friend's house so we can get up early to head to an event in New York in the morning.  I was able to see someone about th...

Happy Midsummer Day

Image
Happy Monday!  I didn't sleep in, this is good.  Unfortunately, I lacked motivation.  When I finally did get going, I kept going.  I went to make a list, since that worked so well yesterday, and remembered that I already made one last night.  Until the last month or so I had lists I was using in an app.  For some reason I stopped looking at them. I'm not sure if going back to paper is the best choice, but it is what is working today.  Here are some other happy things: One of the first things I did was get something out of a box.  Some downsizing had to happen. After looking through it, I ended up pulling apart a notebook.  It was notes from my last year as a Paraeducator.  Now it is a pile to shred and an empty notebook with a lot less pages. My Monday errands got done.   Outside our studio there is a jughandle with lots of plants growing in it.  One pink flowering plant caught my eye.  I thought it looked like a pea ...

Productivity

If you read this blog regularly, you may remember that I sometimes use a Tarot Card app to choose a card for the day.  Normally I look at it and forget about it.  Today the card was the Eight of Wands.  This is a card of momentum and purpose.  Because of the card I made a list and tried to stick to it.   Perhaps I should pretend to have this card every day.   😆 The only thing I didn't quite complete was the laundry.  I had to wait for the rest of the family's laundry to finish before I could start mine.  Mine is drying now so I can finish that in the morning.  Here are some other happy things from today: On Sundays a group of friends try to meet at a local cafe for breakfast.  The original group of people were writers.  Lately I've been using this time to do some research, mostly on medieval pilgrimages.  Today also included some SCA shenanigan planning.  It was a productive morning. From there I went to the stu...

More Skirts

Image
Happy things from today: This morning I sorted through a few things so I could move forward in my downsizing adventure.  I found more skirts, wool ones.  Two weeks ago I found six skirts.  Today I found four more.  None of them will fit me.  I'm in love with the green plaid one.  I thought they would be easy to get rid of, I was wrong.  I'm seriously considering finding ways to repurpose the wool, like making one skirt out of multiple skirts.  Dear reader, you may ask, what about this makes me happy?  I'm feeling excited about being creative with them.  Sure, there is some trepidation too.  But what if I create something fun or beautiful? The shirt at the top has the letter F embroidered on the sleeve.  It was my mother's and will not fit me.  I am ready to say goodbye to that.  That green and blue plaid is fabulous. Downtown Concord is closed for Market Days.  When I tried to go to Keziah’s store, the parking ga...
