Final Post for 2024

--Here are some happy things from this last day of the year: It was a working day for me.  It was busy and I left early.  I had three and a half hours of PTO and I decided to use them.  There was internal guilt, but everyone I told that I had PTO to use, agreed that I needed to use my time. Since I was home a little early, I went to DIY Craft & Thrift and helped finish up the store reset.  The store looks great and somehow seems to be more spacious.   After a nap, I went to the party Keziah and Zed were having.  The theme has to do with toasting in the New Year with jam.  Jam-bor-brie is what they called it this year.  I got to spend time with friends visiting and playing games.  I learned two new games; The Isle of Cats and Dixit.  We also played Carcassonne.   It was a lot of fun.  I need to play games more often. Spin the Lego wheel to choose your jam! My board toward the beginning of playing The Isle of Cats. The y...

Working Wednesday

Happy things from today: One of my coworkers wore a Creeper hat today.  A Creeper is one of the monsters in the Minecraft computer game that I used to play just about every week.  This coworker is Keziah’s age.  He was surprised I played computer games, he didn't peg me as a gamer.  I didn't get the chance to tell him how my teenage paychecks were spent at arcades or that my ex-husband was a game programmer/designer for a while.  I like being a little unpredictable at times. 😁 Packing for the event this weekend didn't go as I had hoped.  I'm happy for the progress that was made.  The rest can happen Friday morning. When I became a member of the Order of the Pelican in 2015 I was given a little wooden Pelican.  I found it recently and it makes me happy.   ☮ Currently listening to: Tales From Earthsea , by Ursula K. Labor Day

Happy second day of September!  Here are my happy things from this Labor Day: This morning I was able to have some leftover blueberry pancakes.  It seemed fitting after I wanted blueberries in my buckwheat pancakes all weekend.  They were very good. While eating breakfast Keziah was playing songs about joining a union.  This seems to be her way of celebrating Labor Day.  It is a good way. My normal Monday errands still had to happen even though today is considered a holiday.  I combined my shopping with a phone call to TF.  That made the errand much nicer.   Since we were all home, it was decided that we could play games.  We played a few games of Kluster and a game of Munchkin.  Munchkin takes some time to play, but it is a lot of fun. Kluster ☮ Currently listening to: Tehanu , by Ursula K. Le Guin. Thank you for being part of my happy things. Stay safe.

Game Night

Here are some happy things from today: There was a class I was thinking about attending this morning, but I didn't. Instead I spent some time organizing the tent and just hanging out.  There was a class, Meet the Mayor, that I tried to attend for Keziah who was off to do laundry.  Unfortunately,  the Mayor couldn't make it.  I was able to talk with new people, and that was good. My garb for the day. Most of the afternoon I spent moving things around in the common tent to make room for game night.  I got a bunch of things reorganized and I mowed some of the area with the push mower I store here. The encampment. People came in sporadically to visit or play games.  We had a fire to sit around as well.  The rain that was forecast did not come.  Games that were played included Sushi Go, Bananagrams, and Snake Oil.  None of the games we ended up playing were medieval, but it was a lot of fun. Gamers! ☮ Thank you for being part of my happy things. S...

Working Day

Some happy things from today: At work we started learning how to use some new scanning/inducting equipment.  I was asked what I thought about it and gave my opinions.  In hindsight, the problems I felt I experienced today seem much less frustrating than the old equipment.  It will take a little getting used to.  For me, it was great to hear that I was the second fastest on the line today with this new equipment. Also at work, they fed us again.  Before I left I got some macaroni and cheese.  I chose to bring it home to eat.  It was yummy. After Gideon got home from school he and I played some games on our phones.  Not together, but exchanging information and clues on the same games.  Gideon has started to enjoy the mini crossword puzzles through the New York Times.  He likes to ask for help or guidance when he needs it.  It is fun working with him to complete these. One more work thing.  There are decorations all around the bui...

Game Day

Happy Sunday!  Here are some of my happy things: The fresh snow was sparkling from the bright sun shining down on it this morning.  Clean, white snow always looks pretty to me.  The trees were heavy, sparkling with ice.  This meant that people lost power.  I hope repairs happen quickly.   I took some time and went through some of the mail I have that has been piling up.  Some things need to be filed, but I was able to recycle some, and put some papers in the shred pile.  It was a small step toward downsizing some things.  The best part was finding unopened bills that I had already paid.  Phew! Say, "Bye, bye paper!" A friend has a birthday tomorrow and invited people over for games.  We played Carcassonne, Mysterium, and a Harry Potter game.  It was a fun time!  Driving home the full moon was high and bright, reflecting the snow and ice.   ☮ Currently listening to: Outlive: The Science and Art of Longevity ,...

Another Long Day

Image
Cat update: it is possible that Nanni passed whatever the obstruction was.  This morning the person feeding and caring for the cats while we were gone said she was seeming much better and actually ate a bunch of her food.  Keziah searched through the litter boxes and might have found the problem.  Unfortunately, we can't be sure.  She seems so much happier now. Here are some other happy things from today: We stayed at a hotel last night so we didn't have to drive far for sleep after the busy day yesterday.  The rooms weren't cheap, but we were all so tired it was the safer choice to make.  The room Bel, a friend, and I shared had a kitchenette and living room area.  Then, in a separate room, were the two queen beds and off that, the bathroom.  I have never been in such a large hotel room.  And the shower, oh.my.gosh.  The shower had three shower heads with two controls.  I think the room was set up to accommodate people with physica...

Sore Feet

Happy things from today: My apologies if this seems repetitive, it is Thursday and my work week is over.  Yay! At work, I did something I don't usually do, I had a conversation with someone that became not work related when I should have been working.  I asked the person what his favorite games are.  The answers were Mysterium and The Resistance .  I think Mysterium sounds like fun.  I'm not as sure that I would like The Resistance.  What this reminded me of is how much I enjoy listening to people talk about things they are passionate about.  After work I took a nap until it was time to pick Gideon up from school.  A little later, he was busy doing his homework and the sun was setting.  I decided to go for a “little” walk.  It was a beautiful day, the sky had pastel colors, and the air was fresh.  About half a mile into this walk the fact that my feet were sore was a distraction.  That is when my brain yelled to me, “Wha...
