Penultimate Day in December

Image
The year is almost over. ( 😮 )  Here are some happy things for today: There was more progress made at DIY Craft & Thrift. I wasn't there as long as I was hoping to be. It is really great to see things coming together. Organization in progress! After working at DIY for almost an hour I left briefly because the time was up on my paid parking. I went to a grocery store that I know takes plastic bags and dropped off some of what I have in the car. I don't like being the person that fills up a recycle bin in a store. I bought some cereal and a new canvas shopping bag. Zed, a friend, and I went to the State Surplus Distribution place in Concord. Keziah wanted some filing cabinets. They only had one and we picked that up. I also got some rusty tools (five for one dollar) and a kitchen knife. They have many different knives there. The kitchen knife is from The Pampered Chef. I'm hopeful that it will last long. By the time we were done there it was too close to my need...

Friendsgiving

Image
Here are some happy things from today: As the holidays got closer, I expected to work five ten hour days a week. So far, my schedule does not reflect that. This made the holiday party (our Friendsgiving) much more enjoyable for me today. I thought I would be going after working a ten hour shift and instead I slept.   Every year my SCA household tries to gather around the holidays and share a meal.  Most of the household members were able to be there today and it was wonderful to see them all.  I only managed to pull the camera out once to take a couple of random pictures.  It seemed like everyone was having a good time. I'm very grateful that I was able to carpool with some friends to the party today.  It made getting home a lot easier for me.  It was a wonderful day with friends, but it was wonderful to get home and see the family.  ☮ Continued listening to: Daindreth's Traiter , by Elisabeth Wheatley. Veteran's Day

Image
Thank you, Veterans!  Here are some happy things from my day: This morning I spent too much time researching food items on the internet.   Specifically, I was looking for powdered meal replacements that just water can be added to.  I have a couple options in my Amazon cart.  At first glance most of them seem really expensive.  When I broke it down, most of them were less than $3 a serving.  That is not much more than a can of soup. My friend Amy and I went for a nice walk today on a rail trail.  We walked about five miles in an hour and forty-five minutes.  If only I could walk that fast on mountains! 😀 Tunnel under Route 101 Tunnel.  We ended up using our phone's flashlights in the middle, it was so dark. Amy and I had to crouch some to go through. Other side There were three horses, I only got a picture of one. Sunset!  Which means I'm awake too late and should be sleeping to go to work tonight.  ☮ Currently listening ...

Happy November

Image
It is hard for me to believe that it is November already.  The weather has been warmer than normal, making it seem more like spring.  Here are some happy things from today: This morning I spent some time cleaning.  I opened the windows for a while and let the warm, fresh air into the apartment.  I even cleaned the freezer. My friend Amy came to visit.  Concord's First Friday theme was Artwalk.  After visiting with Keziah and friends Amy & I walked around the city.  We enjoyed seeing what the artisans were selling.  Mostly, we walked around the city. As night settled in we picked up some food and headed for Craft Night.  After rummaging through some things in the studio I found some jewelry making supplies.  It seemed as good a time as any to try some of that again.  Some people in the SCA are calling this Novice November.  It is to inspire creativity with new crafts.  I decided to use some of the jewelry making supplie...

Long Day, Short Post

Image
Here are some happy things from today: The position I was in at work was Problem Solve.  There were many problems and I ended up working late.  Thankfully, TF was available for a phone call on my ride home.  She helped me stay awake! There is still a little bit of color in some of the trees.   For Inktober I was able to do two of the prompts, jumbo and navigation.  Completing these makes me caught up.  Just in time since there are two days left in the month!  🤣 ☮ Currently listening to: The Dawn of Everything: A New History of Humanity , by David Graeber & David Wengrow. First Snow

Image
Today we had the first snow (flurries) of the season.  Here are some happy things from today: Work sometimes offers up gifts for good performance.   This morning I had an email with gift options to choose from.  Considering the snow flurries this morning and how that and the cold sent me back under the covers, I chose a snow shovel.  Not just any snow shovel, but a Snow Joe Shovelution.  I watched some YouTube videos about it and decided that it is worth a shot.  Hopefully I won't need it often this winter.   There really were flurries, just not enough to see in the picture.  Thankfully, the weather cleared.  With temperatures close to 50 degrees and a bright sunny sky, Amy and I went for a walk.  We chose the same rail trail as last week.  We went about half of a mile more.  There was a tunnel, more ponds, and we found a parking lot that we can use if we want to explore farther down the rail trail.  For Inktober...

Crown

Image
Happy things from today: It was an early morning.  I left the house before sunrise and headed west on the highway.  The sun rose behind me and I could see the sky changing colors in the rear view mirror. The SCA event I attended today was the Crown Tournament.  This is when the next set of Royals is determined through rattan sword fighting.  A good part of my day I spent visiting with friends I haven't seen in a while and then watching the rattan fighters until there was a winner so we have a new Prince. Keziah was at work today.  We ended up having a video call so she could watch some of the fighting with me.  There are less pictures because of that.   It was nice to see people I know get awards during court in the evening.  It was a lovely, but quite chilly day.  The drive home was long and warm.  I'm looking forward to a good night's sleep.  ☮ Finished listening to: Lirael , by Garth Nix. Archery

Image
Happy things from today: This day started so much better than yesterday.  I got up at a reasonable time and went for a walk.  It was soon after dawn.  I saw a blue heron fly from the swamp it was in. Herons are so big!  There wasn't time for a picture. According to the news, foliage is at peak in this part of the state.  Most trees have turned color, a few are a little behind.  Moon It is Sunday so I went to the cafe with a friend this morning.  It was just the two of us since the other people who usually go are currently out of state.  I ordered something a little different than I tend to and it was really good.  The company was lovely. There was archery practice today with my friend Stephanie.  Amy was there, too and three other people.  It was a good turnout.  I shot okay, but not consistently, so my scores aren't quite as high as I'd like.  It was a lot of fun.  It would be great if I could take my highest s...
