Lazy Saturday

Image
All I wanted to do this morning was stay warm in bed.  And so I did.  Eventually, I got up, showered, and had breakfast.   Here are some happy things from the day: Getting out of the house, even for a little bit, seemed important to me today.  I took a small walk.  The fresh air was nice.  There was ice on the trail puddles.  I think the walk helped this cold I have been fighting, or it is really allergies.   My goal today was to clean off the futon that has been covered with boxes.  I reached that goal.  The futon cover is in the wash.  I can't figure out how to turn the futon couch into a bed, but hopefully someone else can.  This means that there is a place to sit while sorting through boxes.  This also opens up another option for Bel to sleep on.  I'm not sure that either living room is better than the other, but it is a choice.  I even vacuumed and washed some of the floor. Someday this wall will b...

Frosty Night

Happy Wednesday things: When I left for work my car was covered with a thick layer of frost or thin layer of ice or a combination. When I got to work I noticed all the patterns on my rooftop. Even though I was running later than I wanted to, I took some pictures because, pretty. Work was good. It was one of the few times that the building seemed cold. This was great when I was moving around a lot. Once they moved me to Problem Solve, I put on my fleece. Everyone was home when I got back from work. Keziah has been busy cooking for Thanksgiving. Zed works from home or the store. Gideon has the long weekend off from school. They were just finishing lunch. There was enough for me to have some too. I'm kind of amazed at how much I relaxed when there was food ready that I didn't have to prepare. Zed went to work from the store after lunch so he could be available to the helpers there.  The rest of us did more prep work for tomorrow.  I'm still not sure what I'll b...

A Day for Shopping... or Dreaming

Some happy things from a beautiful Monday: Keziah and I had some things to do that meant driving on the highway.  Around ten in the morning the trees were still covered with ice and it was very pretty.  On the way home, the tree ice had all melted. We went to the mall so Keziah could shop some sales.  I found a pair of pants on clearance that I think will be good for hiking.  They are made with recycled nylon and are lightweight.  I think they will be good for backpacking.  They have a cool feature where the pants can be taken in if the wearer loses weight or drops a size. We also got some necklaces with our zodiac signs.  For many, many years, I've wanted to find and learn where my constellation is.  I think I've found Sagittarius before, but I've yet to learn it.   Before picking up Gideon at school, I spent a little bit of time at the studio.  I was hoping to work on my rug braiding.  The sewing machine is at the store, not ...

Mimir's Well

Happy Sunday things: For some reason, today is the day that someone decided to introduce the cats to Cat TV.  I'm not sure where Nanni was, but Winston seemed to like it. Winston This morning Gideon and I left for a long drive to go to an event in Vermont.  It was a good thing that the event didn't start until the afternoon, even with their late start time, we were later!  We stopped and picked up some nice crepes for lunch in Montpelier on the way.  The snow, mountains, ice, and all the views were lovely. Waiting for crepes. The event, Mimir's Well, was fairly small, which I like.  It was far enough away that only a couple other people came up from Stonemarche.  There were only a few other people that I knew.  The day was all about taking classes.  Together, Gideon and I got to the last bit of Acid-etching on Brass.  Then I took a class on Cordage Making and then Making Oil Lamps for Your Camp.  Gideon went to the History of Games class...

Too Much & Not Enough Ice

Happy Saturday things: Somehow, I slept more than eight hours last night.  It has been months, and it feels pretty good. My friend, Amy, and I went for a walk at Livingston Park today.  The trail was pretty icy.  We both remembered to bring our Exospikes.  The walk went much better after we put them on.  I'm not sure if the pond there froze over completely or not this winter, but it isn’t now.  What ice there is on the pond isn't safe, and it is just the beginning of February.  If I decide to go skating, it will be at a rink this year.  With temperatures getting to around 60 degrees today, I'm glad I had short sleeves on.   Keziah had a virtual vigil for her upcoming elevation in the SCA.  In a few short weeks she will become a Laurel, the highest level award we have for the arts and sciences.  One of her good friends is also being elevated but to a Pelican, the highest award we have for service.  I got to speak with...

Happy Introvert Day

Some happy things from today: At work, a supervisor came up to me, two separate times, and asked me to work in a different area for a little while.  Both times I was very happy with the option I was given.  I'd like to think my entire face lit up, but I was wearing a mask.  😁 I don't think I've ever met someone who loves school as much as my grandson, Gideon.  Today Gideon started seventh grade.  The public school he goes to noticed that he wasn't being challenged enough in the sixth grade.  When he got home from school today he gave us a summary of his day.  He was so excited! Gideon doing his homework. The program/app I use sometimes to track my walks is called Map My Run.  They offered a challenge for the year that I decided to join.  I can't remember how far, but I went for a ten minute walk today, using the app, just so I could add to my distance.  Look at how the ice is freezing around this drain.  So cool.  Next time I ...

Happy 2024-Ice

Happy New Year!  Welcome to my happy blog.  Here I try to find things from my day that brought a glimmer of joy to me.  I hope by sharing these things, that others may find some happiness as well. Here are today's happy things: Staying up with Gideon and Zed to bring in the new year. Keziah is out of isolation from having covid.  It was so good to see her again this morning! While out on a walk a car drove by with the convertible top down.  It was 33 degrees and ice was formed on puddles.  I think the people must have been happy, enjoying the fresh air and breeze.  It makes me happy to think they were having fun. My walk was almost three and a half mile's long today.  It seems like it has been quite a while since I walked that distance for me and not work.  I'm hoping this first walk of the year will inspire me to get out there again and explore.  I saw bluebirds, ducks, squirrels, and maybe juncos?  I couldn’t get close enough to m...
