Hike Prep

Here are some happy things from today: This morning Zed picked me up at the place I was getting my car worked on.  He bought me a peppermint steamer on the way home.  It was yummy.  After that I spent most of the day watching Keziah play a video game.  It has a story based between the fighting parts.  I think I just liked being with family. When my car was finished, Bel and I decided to go on a short walk.  We drove north of the city to the rail trail.  There is a bridge there that I thought was interesting and wanted to show Bel.  When I was about halfway across the bridge I remembered that I didn't ever want to go over it again.  We made it over and continued to walk a little before turning around.  It was getting dark and I wanted to be over the bridge again while there was still light.  It was a nice little walk.  The fresh air was good. Statue of Hannah Duston. Some of the things Bel and I have been meaning to do was to se...

First Snow

Image
Today we had the first snow (flurries) of the season.  Here are some happy things from today: Work sometimes offers up gifts for good performance.   This morning I had an email with gift options to choose from.  Considering the snow flurries this morning and how that and the cold sent me back under the covers, I chose a snow shovel.  Not just any snow shovel, but a Snow Joe Shovelution.  I watched some YouTube videos about it and decided that it is worth a shot.  Hopefully I won't need it often this winter.   There really were flurries, just not enough to see in the picture.  Thankfully, the weather cleared.  With temperatures close to 50 degrees and a bright sunny sky, Amy and I went for a walk.  We chose the same rail trail as last week.  We went about half of a mile more.  There was a tunnel, more ponds, and we found a parking lot that we can use if we want to explore farther down the rail trail.  For Inktober...

Event Day

Image
Today I went to an SCA event that I have not previously attended.  The only reason I attended was to help out by being a retainer for her Highness.  From what I could tell, it was a good event with a fair amount in attendance.   For me, it was mostly a bubble day.  Had the weather been dry, I would have wandered more and watched the people fighting and fencing.  I would have wished for my archery equipment to have fit in the car.  Instead, it rained.  Mostly, I stayed with my bubble of friends. Here are my happy highlights: The three+ish hour drive to the event was with three lovely ladies where we had conversations and shared stories. During the event I was able to do some shopping.  I also was able to talk with the person that will be making new coronets for the Barony.  I look forward to seeing how the design looks. While retaining for her Highness, I met some new people and reacquainted with friends I haven't seen in a while. ...

A Scary Bridge

Image
Happy Friday!  Some happy things from today include:      My friend, Amy, came over this afternoon to help me get the bedroom painted in the apartment.  We re-covered almost the entire wall with white.  The old color was still seeping through. It looks so much better now.  The stairway and the section over the closet are still left to do.  I learned that it is a small enough area that there were some occasional tightness with two people and a ladder. After, we went for a walk on the Northern Rail Trail.  I have been on a very small amount of this trail before a few years ago.  The area is very pretty.  Part of the trail isn't complete and still has rails.  We walked over a railroad bridge with wood that was rotted which made for a careful walk.  I was pleased with myself for not chickening out on that bridge. Some of the rotting planks are visible in this picture. There is water down there. We weren't far from the trails a...
