Birka One

Some happy things from the first day of the Market Day at Birka Event:

  • The roads were slick this morning with sleet and freezing rain falling from the sky.  My ride arrived to get me safely and got us to the event safely.  
  • Every once in a while things that one doesn't expect to happen, happen.  Today that was my hotel room being available (and they let me have it) long before it was supposed to be.  Also, I got a corner room with a king sized bed all to myself!

  • Finished the weaving!


  • It has been really good so far seeing all the people.  When I have a task, it doesn't even seem overwhelming.  It is a good thing there are so many things to do here.
Keziah was supposed to read to children,
But no children showed up.

Relaxing at the end of the day on the couch in my hotel room.  I'm pretty sure it opens up to allow for more people.

Happy New Year!  Welcome to my happy blog.  Here I try to find things from my day that brought a glimmer of joy to me.  I hope by sharing these things, that others may find some happiness as well. Here are today's happy things: Staying up with Gideon and Zed to bring in the new year. Keziah is out of isolation from having covid.  It was so good to see her again this morning! While out on a walk a car drove by with the convertible top down.  It was 33 degrees and ice was formed on puddles.  I think the people must have been happy, enjoying the fresh air and breeze.  It makes me happy to think they were having fun. My walk was almost three and a half mile's long today.  It seems like it has been quite a while since I walked that distance for me and not work.  I'm hoping this first walk of the year will inspire me to get out there again and explore.  I saw bluebirds, ducks, squirrels, and maybe juncos?  I couldn’t get close enough to make a positive identification.  There was

Wow, Long and PICTURES

What a wonderful day!  Here are some happy highlights and a bunch of pictures. My friend Stephanie (I got her permission to use her name) and I started out later than planned but Magalloway Mountain wasn't too long of a drive from where we camped.  After driving over miles of dirt roads we ended up at the trailhead.  We chose to go up the Bobcat Trail and down the Coot Trail.  The Bobcat Trail is a narrow trail that doubled as a small brook in places. 😉  When we got to the top of the mountain there was a trail to an overlook and we went there first.  The overlook was over a cliff, but it was beautiful and we could see so far.  The tower view was also spectacular and gave us a 360 degree view.  I don't know where the borders are, but from where we stood in New Hampshire we could see Canada and Maine, probably Vermont, too. The Coot Trail was wider and probably could be used by vehicles that can handle steep hills with rocks and gravel when maintaining the buildings on the top.

North Country

Happy things from today: This morning, Nanni caught a mouse.  She was rewarded greatly.  No pictures, you're welcome.  😁 My friend and I headed for the mountains a little after 11:30 this morning.  We had a little miscommunication when it came to the plans which meant we stopped for lunch and to pick up a few things on the way.  Our plan is to go to two fire towers that are in the northern part of New Hampshire.  Along with that, we hope to explore and have fun along the way. On the way, we caught site of a another fire tower.  It is one that I visited back in 2021.  I hadn't realized it was along the way.  The tower itself was closed for renovations.  We had a nice walk up Mount Prospect.  We could have driven, but it was a good, short (about a mile) hike up the Heritage Trail. Tonight we are staying at a campground along Lake Francis.  It is a large lake and the Connecticut River feeds it and leaves it.  The river is, of course, smaller than it is in Connecticut.  There is a
