Happy things from today:

  • This is an event that I came to for a couple reasons.  One of those reasons is to help my friend by retaining (serving) for Their Highnesses.  Much of the day was spent being near Their Highnesses just in case they needed something.  It was a low key event and they didn't need a lot.  Hanging out with purpose is kind of what happened.  It was nice.
  • Another reason was that there was a Baronial Investiture today.  That is when the former Baronage steps down, and the new step up.  Since Keziah and I will be stepping down soon-ish, I wanted to get some ideas.  I'm hoping for some shtick, and I got some ideas.  Yay!
  • The last reason is a reason to go to any local-ish SCA event, the friendships.  It was a good day to talk with people, see people get awards, and just experience being near people I care about.

Happy New Year!  Welcome to my happy blog.  Here I try to find things from my day that brought a glimmer of joy to me.  I hope by sharing these things, that others may find some happiness as well. Here are today's happy things: Staying up with Gideon and Zed to bring in the new year. Keziah is out of isolation from having covid.  It was so good to see her again this morning! While out on a walk a car drove by with the convertible top down.  It was 33 degrees and ice was formed on puddles.  I think the people must have been happy, enjoying the fresh air and breeze.  It makes me happy to think they were having fun. My walk was almost three and a half mile's long today.  It seems like it has been quite a while since I walked that distance for me and not work.  I'm hoping this first walk of the year will inspire me to get out there again and explore.  I saw bluebirds, ducks, squirrels, and maybe juncos?  I couldn’t get close enough to make a positive identification.  There was

Wow, Long and PICTURES

What a wonderful day!  Here are some happy highlights and a bunch of pictures. My friend Stephanie (I got her permission to use her name) and I started out later than planned but Magalloway Mountain wasn't too long of a drive from where we camped.  After driving over miles of dirt roads we ended up at the trailhead.  We chose to go up the Bobcat Trail and down the Coot Trail.  The Bobcat Trail is a narrow trail that doubled as a small brook in places. 😉  When we got to the top of the mountain there was a trail to an overlook and we went there first.  The overlook was over a cliff, but it was beautiful and we could see so far.  The tower view was also spectacular and gave us a 360 degree view.  I don't know where the borders are, but from where we stood in New Hampshire we could see Canada and Maine, probably Vermont, too. The Coot Trail was wider and probably could be used by vehicles that can handle steep hills with rocks and gravel when maintaining the buildings on the top.

 A few happy things from today: There is an active member of our Barony that has been asking for whipcord braiding.  I decided to do a quick research of this online and learned that I have actually done this before, once.  This morning Keziah and I went to the studio for supplies to bring to the NH Renaissance Faire.  I got wool, and she got calligraphy supplies.  The sycamore tree by the studio is partially barked currently. At the Faire, I tried to do the whipcord braiding, first with Gideon, then by myself.  We had mixed results.  I learned a few things and hope for better at home, and not at a distracting Faire.  One of the things I learned is that it is more fun with a second person.   Here is a link to a short YouTube video  demonstrating whipcord braiding.  There were many people who came through the SCA tent today.  Many of those people showed interest in participating in this crazy medieval thing I do.  I hope to see some of them at future events.
