The plan for this morning was to cheer on my rattan fighting champion in the Knowne World Baronial Armored Combat Tournament.  Unfortunately, my champion took a hit yesterday and decided not to fight today.  They were thinking they would marshal the battles instead.  I asked them if they would consider marshaling the champions tournament instead, and they did.  Here are some happy things from today:

  • I attended the tournament even though my champion couldn't fight.  It seemed like a way to show support.  During the tournament, each fighter is asked to present themselves to the assembled baronages and answer some questions.  Listening to the answers and little stories the fighters told and hearing the passion or excitement in their voices, was inspiring.  It was interesting to hear how many of them know that the SCA needs to change somehow, but that none of them had the answer to the problem.  There isn't one answer, and that is okay.  Hearing all the ideas and stories left me feeling inspired and I hope I am able to bring some of that home with me.
  • Keziah and I went out with friends for ice cream before we headed to some meetings.  The meetings were very informative about some upcoming changes.  The ice cream was delicious.  😁  I was also able to speak directly with His Highness about some concerns.  The conversation left me feeling much better.

  • Wednesday of War Week at Pennsic means Midnight Madness.  All the shops are able to stay open until midnight.  I went out shopping with Zed and a friend.  I purchased too much fabric, an inexpensive mug for me to wear on my belt, and a pretty ceramic mug for my friend.  She did the majority of the work for the encampment this year and that was the least I could do.
As a side note, there is a former hurricane, Debby, which will be coming close to where we are.  There are a lot of concerns and rumors flying around Pennsic.  We watched both the local Pittsburgh weather report and the one from NH.  We are trying to make our packing and traveling decisions with this storm in mind.

Final Post for 2024

--Here are some happy things from this last day of the year: It was a working day for me.  It was busy and I left early.  I had three and a half hours of PTO and I decided to use them.  There was internal guilt, but everyone I told that I had PTO to use, agreed that I needed to use my time. Since I was home a little early, I went to DIY Craft & Thrift and helped finish up the store reset.  The store looks great and somehow seems to be more spacious.   After a nap, I went to the party Keziah and Zed were having.  The theme has to do with toasting in the New Year with jam.  Jam-bor-brie is what they called it this year.  I got to spend time with friends visiting and playing games.  I learned two new games; The Isle of Cats and Dixit.  We also played Carcassonne.   It was a lot of fun.  I need to play games more often. Sore Thursday

Here are some happy Thursday things: In an attempt to make a long story short, last week I fell and things didn't seem too sore.  Then I went hiking and backpacking, again, not too bad.  Follow this with work where I needed to get up and down from the floor and now I am having enough aches and pains that I've been taking ibuprofen.  Why is this part of my happy list?  The ibuprofen worked.  It wasn't perfect, but while on it, there was a lot of improvement.  So much so that around 5.5 hours after taking it, I could tell the pills had worn off.  Okay, maybe the story wasn't short.  🙂 I remembered to mend the seam on the gown I'm planning to wear Saturday.   It needs a little more done, but not today. Wow, Long and PICTURES

What a wonderful day!  Here are some happy highlights and a bunch of pictures. My friend Stephanie (I got her permission to use her name) and I started out later than planned but Magalloway Mountain wasn't too long of a drive from where we camped.  After driving over miles of dirt roads we ended up at the trailhead.  We chose to go up the Bobcat Trail and down the Coot Trail.  The Bobcat Trail is a narrow trail that doubled as a small brook in places. 😉  When we got to the top of the mountain there was a trail to an overlook and we went there first.  The overlook was over a cliff, but it was beautiful and we could see so far.  The tower view was also spectacular and gave us a 360 degree view.  I don't know where the borders are, but from where we stood in New Hampshire we could see Canada and Maine, probably Vermont, too.
