Happy November

It is hard for me to believe that it is November already.  The weather has been warmer than normal, making it seem more like spring.  Here are some happy things from today:

  • This morning I spent some time cleaning.  I opened the windows for a while and let the warm, fresh air into the apartment.  I even cleaned the freezer.
  • My friend Amy came to visit.  Concord's First Friday theme was Artwalk.  After visiting with Keziah and friends Amy & I walked around the city.  We enjoyed seeing what the artisans were selling.  Mostly, we walked around the city.




  • As night settled in we picked up some food and headed for Craft Night.  After rummaging through some things in the studio I found some jewelry making supplies.  It seemed as good a time as any to try some of that again.  Some people in the SCA are calling this Novice November.  It is to inspire creativity with new crafts.  I decided to use some of the jewelry making supplies I have and try to make a necklace, something I don't think I have tried before.  I strung a bunch of beads together.  After I was done, a friend asked if I had tied a knot every few beads.  Whoops, I didn't do that.  I remember now that I should have thought of it.  Oh well.  Every mistake is a learning experience.  I did something new, but I don't think I will officially participate in Novice November.  I may try to dabble with a few things this month though.

Wow, Long and PICTURES

What a wonderful day!  Here are some happy highlights and a bunch of pictures. My friend Stephanie (I got her permission to use her name) and I started out later than planned but Magalloway Mountain wasn't too long of a drive from where we camped.  After driving over miles of dirt roads we ended up at the trailhead.  We chose to go up the Bobcat Trail and down the Coot Trail.  The Bobcat Trail is a narrow trail that doubled as a small brook in places. 😉  When we got to the top of the mountain there was a trail to an overlook and we went there first.  The overlook was over a cliff, but it was beautiful and we could see so far.  The tower view was also spectacular and gave us a 360 degree view.  I don't know where the borders are, but from where we stood in New Hampshire we could see Canada and Maine, probably Vermont, too. The Coot Trail was wider and probably could be used by vehicles that can handle steep hills with rocks and gravel when maintaining the buildings on the top.

Happy 2024-Ice

Happy New Year!  Welcome to my happy blog.  Here I try to find things from my day that brought a glimmer of joy to me.  I hope by sharing these things, that others may find some happiness as well. Here are today's happy things: Staying up with Gideon and Zed to bring in the new year. Keziah is out of isolation from having covid.  It was so good to see her again this morning! While out on a walk a car drove by with the convertible top down.  It was 33 degrees and ice was formed on puddles.  I think the people must have been happy, enjoying the fresh air and breeze.  It makes me happy to think they were having fun. My walk was almost three and a half mile's long today.  It seems like it has been quite a while since I walked that distance for me and not work.  I'm hoping this first walk of the year will inspire me to get out there again and explore.  I saw bluebirds, ducks, squirrels, and maybe juncos?  I couldn’t get close enough to make a positive identification.  There was

Otter's Welcome

Some happy things from today: There is a picture I have from a few years ago of my adult children with lilacs in their hair.  This included Bel's generous beard.  Keziah picked some this morning so we could have some in our hair at an SCA event in Massachusetts, Otter's Welcome.  This is an event that is aimed with newcomers in mind.  There is a little bit of most categories to do or observe.  Keziah ran children's point.  I visited with a few people.   Keziah In the middle of the day I started falling asleep.  I ended up napping in the car for a little while.  There was a class I wanted to take, but it was when I was resting. This is also when the weather decided to rain.  That break was needed and I think I enjoyed the rest of the day more because of it.
