Goodbye January

Image
Happy things to end January: Yesterday I wrote about how the snow looked pretty.  Today I took a picture, well, two pictures.  The first was taken a little after 12:30 AM, before I left for work.  The second was about twelve hours later, when I got home.  Had I thought about it, I could have aimed the camera at the same spot.  Anyhow, the picture I took this afternoon reminds me of a postcard. There was food at work before we left for the day.  There were steak subs (that I skipped), chips, popcorn, and cotton candy.  They set up games too.  I sat and had snacks.  When the work day is done, I like to sit for a bit. After work I was hoping to pull out some weaving I have.  It has been on the loom for a couple of years now.  I was hoping to make Wednesday a weaving day.  That was not to happen today.  When I got home, Zed's mom was here.  To make a long story short, she needed a ride to pick up her purse that she left at her daughter's and then to the garage to pick up her car.

Already Tuesday

Happy things from today: At work, they assigned me places that I seldom go.  One of these is a place that was making me ill when I was on medication.  I'm happy to report that this was not a problem today.   It has been cold enough that yesterday's snow is still sticking to trees.  It was very lovely today.  The tops of the trees were white against the cloud cover.  It was picturesque, but I didn't pull my phone out to take a picture when I should have.  I was also too cold to step outside, so we have a picture of the view out some windows.  ☮ Currently listening to: My Name Is Barbra , by Barbra Streisand. Snowy Monday

Image
Happy Monday things: This morning I had an online therapy appointment.  Too much of the time is spent with me trying to come up with something to talk about.  The reason I am bringing this up is that I've decided that spacing the appointments out more will be a good thing.  Maybe I'll have more things to talk about if more things might happen between visits?  I don't know.  I'm happy I made this decision. We got about six inches of snow last night.  It was very pretty this morning.  It was also very sticky and heavy.  The trees sagged and it even stuck to the clothesline! My Monday chore of shopping is complete.  Perhaps, I should try harder to stay away from Dairy Queen while I am out.  On the way home I got a snickerdoodle Blizzard.  They are only around for a limited time, but I love them.  I like to think that if they were always available, I would go less.  It had been months and months, then I saw the snickerdoodle Blizzards and I've been there five times in t

Birka Final Day

Some happy things from this last day of Birka: After packing, I attended a meeting of the Forester's Guild.  People in the guild learn about living in the woods during the middle ages.  It is an interesting group.  I got to welcome them and thank them for coming, but the meeting belonged to them. Myself and the neighboring Baron of Carolingia. Gifts! There was snow and rain this afternoon.  Merchants could choose to stay open until three, but they started packing to leave much earlier.  I was able to pick up a few trinkets.  I'll be posting pictures of some of the items this week. Since the merchants packed up early, we were able to leave earlier than expected.  I went to eat with some friends.  It was good to talk about the event and slowly move into some downtime.  It is so good to be home!  I'm looking forward to a good night's rest.  A trinket. ☮ Currently listening to: My Name Is Barbra , by Barbra Streisand. Birka 2

There are people I was hoping to see today, that I didn't.  There are people I was hoping to see that I did.  It was a good day.  There were many things that kept me busy all day.  Here are some happy highlights: There were five newcomers that joined Keziah and I at a meet and greet this morning.  For me, meeting new people can be hard.  This planned part of the day can make it a little easier.  This time, Keziah did most of the talking, last year, I feel like we split it up better.  This isn't a problem, just an observation.  There were many wonderful creations at the Arts & Sciences exhibit.  There were more tablet weaving pieces than I expected to see.  There were calligraphy and illumination items, fiber arts, archery, and even a display on siege engines.  Once again, other responsibilities kept me from attending the martial activities.  One of those responsibilities is walking through the merchant area to choose one to win the Baroness Choice Award.  I'm still thin

Some happy things from the first day of the Market Day at Birka Event: The roads were slick this morning with sleet and freezing rain falling from the sky.  My ride arrived to get me safely and got us to the event safely.   Every once in a while things that one doesn't expect to happen, happen.  Today that was my hotel room being available (and they let me have it) long before it was supposed to be.  Also, I got a corner room with a king sized bed all to myself!   The lovely view from my hotel room. Finished the weaving! It has been really good so far seeing all the people.  When I have a task, it doesn't even seem overwhelming.  It is a good thing there are so many things to do here. Keziah was supposed to read to children, But no children showed up. Giant cookie The young man on the right made the cookie for Keziah. Relaxing at the end of the day on the couch in my hotel room.  I'm pretty sure it opens up to allow for more people. ☮ Currently listening to: My Name Is Barb

Hat

Happy things from today: With so much to do to prepare for this weekend, I put my name on the VTO list at work.  Around 5 AM it was offered.  Right before my badge was scanned so I could leave, the person in charge of training suggested I take a course, if I had the time.  Learning opportunities can be hard to get so I stayed.  I finally left around 11 AM, not quite an hour before my shift was up.  I'm now trained in hazardous material handling and jackpot.  Yay training! The weaving I've been working on is almost done.  I just need to cut it off the loom and secure the ends. Keziah made me a fancy new gown to wear on Saturday.  Our clothes will coordinate.  She made a hat for herself that I tried on.  There is a slim possibility that she will make me a hat as well; I don't think she will have the time before Saturday. ☮ Currently listening to: My Name Is Barbra , by Barbra Streisand. Weaving Wednesday

Image
Here are some happy things from Weaving Wednesday: At my job some of the tasks we do have an average amount per hour that we are supposed to try to reach.  I don't know what the average is for what I worked on today.  I do know that my average rate per hour was in the 900's last time they told me and it was in the 1000's today.  Yay! It was an ice cream float day at work.  I got a yummy rootbeer float. The weaving I didn't make time for yesterday, I made time for today.  Hopefully, this means I finish weaving the band tomorrow, and have it ready for this weekend. Nanni wanted to help.  😉 Snow! ☮ Currently listening to: My Name Is Barbra , by Barbra Streisand. ❤ Finished listening to the interview with my daughter for a radio show.  It can be found here: https://www.nhtalkradio.com/?p=20536 ❤ Thank you for being part of my happy things. Primary Day

Some happy things from today: Yesterday I got very little sleep, but I made it through the night at work.  I think it helped that they moved me from the pick line, which is active and boring; to the Problem Solve section which isn't as active, but I had to use my brain.   Zed and I went to the polls when I was home from work and voted.  Keziah went first thing this morning.  Zed brought Gideon with him as a learning moment.  Gideon has been researching and learning about the election at school and home. Since I am so tired I didn't get as much weaving done as I wanted, but I worked on it until I started falling asleep.  It didn't take long.  I keep drifting off as I write this too.  It is time for bed. ☮ Currently listening to: My Name Is Barbra , by Barbra Streisand. ❤ Started listening to the interview with my daughter for a radio show.  It can be found here: https://www.nhtalkradio.com/?p=20536 ❤ Thank you for being part of my happy things. Nostalgic Restaurants

Image
Happy things from today: The amount of weaving I was hoping to do today got done.  It got done with a mistake, but I'm letting it go because I don't think it is very noticeable.  I hope.   Snow on the trails makes it harder to walk through, there is an extra amount of resistance.  I walked along a rail trail with my friend, Amy, and I'm feeling it now; it isn't that bad, just more than I expected.   Maybe it is because I walked in the snow on Friday as well? I don't know.  It was a good walk with great company. There are certain things, in this case a restaurant, that bring on a large sense of nostalgia.  I would have to say that Skip's Snack Bar, formally a mainstay in Merrimac, MA, is one such restaurant for me.  For Keziah, one restaurant that is nostalgic for her is the Golden Corral .  It is a restaurant chain that was common in Texas.  As it has buffet style eating, and was affordable, we would frequent there when she was young.  I have to say that it does
